The view from the top is something else. You get to the Northern Terrace and think: oh, wow. Then you climb all those steps to get to the VIP terrace and think: WOOOOW!!! Gorgeous panorama! The skip-the-line tickets were also great since we visited in August and I really didn’t want to wait in that heat.

Over 40,000 tons. The Dome of the Florence Duomo uses more than 4 million bricks from floor to ceiling, is 10 stories high, and, at its widest, measures half the size of a football field. Its massive scale and lack of wood (made entirely from bricks) contribute to its tremendous weight.
GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
- It’s a good idea to wear comfortable shoes because of the Duomo’s staircases.
- The Duomo has a dress code: visitors should cover their shoulders, chest, stomach, and thighs. While in the building, ensure a shawl or jacket covers any exposed body parts between your shoulders and knees.
- Flip-flops are not allowed inside the Duomo.
- Children are welcome to participate, provided they are over 7.
- Please note that the Northern Terrace and Dome portion of the tour includes high heights and narrow spaces.
- Glass objects, luggage, and helmets are not allowed inside the Duomo.
