The Duomo complex was a highlight of my visit to Florence! I already tried to visit the Duomo Cathedral a few times but it was always too crowded. It’s hard to believe that the man who finally completed the Cathedral's dome wasn’t even born until 80 years after construction had begun! Over time, the building's plans evolved, becoming more ambitious, but the dome remained unfinished because no one figured out how to achieve the envisioned shape. Even the artists who came up with the idea of the rounded dome were not sure how to build it. Yet, the desire to realize this vision grew. The city's leaders did not want to abandon their dream, and finally, Brunelleschi started construction of the dome in 1420 and finished it in 1436.
