An unforgettable experience

The Duomo complex was a highlight of my visit to Florence! I already tried to visit the Duomo Cathedral a few times but it was always too crowded. So, this time, I chose these Duomo Florence tickets because they offered skip the line access. I was blown away by the size of the Duomo Florence Cathedral and it is one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen! I loved its marble façade and how it takes up almost the entire Piazza del Duomo. I also visited the Opera del Duomo museum, where I learned a lot about the history of the cathedral.

Gorgeous details on cathedral's facade

My friends who visited Florence told me that the Duomo Florence Cathedral is a must-see, so I had to get these tickets! The cathedral’s architecture is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I enjoyed the detailed exterior and liked how grand the interior was. The frescoes inside the dome, particularly Giorgio Vasari’s Last Judgment, and the marble altar area were impressive. I also loved the beautiful stained glass windows, especially the rose window above the entrance. If you're in Florence, Cathedral di Santa Maria del Fiore is a must!

EXPLORE DUOMO'S IMPRESSIVE ARCHITECTURE

The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, or the Duomo Florence Cathedral, is a masterpiece of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. It was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296. The iconic marble façade, added in the 19th century by Emilio De Fabris, features intricate sculptures and geometric patterns of white, green, and red marble. Covering an area of over 8,300 square meters (89,340 sq ft), the Duomo is one of the largest churches in the world, measuring about 153 meters (502 ft) long and 114 meters (374 ft) high.

DISCOVER BEAUTIFUL ART INSIDE THE CATHEDRAL

Inside the cathedral, you’ll find incredible artwork from some of Italy's greatest masters. The dome, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, was an engineering marvel of its time, with no wooden supports used during its construction. It still holds the title of the largest masonry dome in the world. The interior of the dome features “The Last Judgment”, a grand fresco by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari, which covers 3,600 square meters (32,292 square feet), making it one of the largest frescoes in the world. You’ll also notice Duomo’s 44 stunning stained glass windows designed by artists like Donatello, Paolo Uccello, and Andrea del Castagno, adding some color to the interior.

UNCOVER DUOMO'S RICH HISTORY

While exploring the cathedral, you’ll discover that the Duomo is rich in history. For example, the famous bronze doors of the Baptistery, known as the "Gates of Paradise", were crafted by Lorenzo Ghiberti and took over 27 years to complete. The cathedral itself is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and still serves today as the heart of religious life in Florence. You also can’t miss its tall bell tower, designed by Giotto, which rises to 84.7 meters (278 ft).

Did you know that the Cathedral was already 80 years old when Brunelleschi was born?

It’s hard to believe that the man who finally completed the Cathedral's dome wasn’t even born until 80 years after construction had begun! Over time, the building's plans evolved, becoming more ambitious, but the dome remained unfinished because no one figured out how to achieve the envisioned shape. Even the artists who came up with the idea of the rounded dome were not sure how to build it. Yet, the desire to realize this vision grew. The city's leaders did not want to abandon their dream, and finally, Brunelleschi started construction of the dome in 1420 and finished it in 1436.
